Away from the marketing job you want, there are general requirements to help you

to find any marketing job you want

; those requirements are:

1. Get a marketing knowledge: from reading, case studies, listening to marketing audio books, listen to marketing success stories from marketing professionals and marketing experts.

2. Get a marketing qualification: basically marketing degree, more preferable than business, economy, or finance degrees. The level of marketing degree is depending on marketing job you want to get. There are diploma degrees, bachelor degree, post graduate diploma degree, master degree or MBA, and finally Ph.D or D.B.A Degree.

Please note that the marketing degree isn’t that essential as you expect, I knew marketers who didn’t take any marketing degree further than marketing certificate, and now they are marketing managers. On the other hand, I knew individuals who are holding MBA degree and they didn’t find any marketing job until now. So it’s a combination of knowledge, skills and experience.

3. Get marketing skills in the marketing job you want to get: if you want to join marketing research, then go and learn skills needed to be marketing researcher. If you want to join marketing communications agencies, then go and learn the skills needed to become a Marketing communications specialist.

There are two approaches to learn skills: through trial and error, and through learning the knowledge and applying them in marketing related tasks. Actually I don’t prefer trial and error; because it will make you learn the skills but after a long time.

Also you can apply the knowledge you study on case studies, reading about how companies are conducting their marketing research, get case studies and apply them, then ask someone to see how do you do in applying the knowledge. I am telling you this because you will tell me “How I can learn strategic marketing management skills while I am marketing executive right now?”, that’s why I am telling you that you can do it through case studies, apply the knowledge on them, and ask marketing professionals to help you about your application. I can tell you that your marketing knowledge and skills can help you to overcome the required experience for any marketing job you want to apply for.

4. Get a marketing experience to help you to go through marketing career: I am always recommending to marketing lovers who didn’t work in marketing yet, to accept the marketing offers that provide them small money but great experience, rather than joining companies providing big money and small learning experience. Also you can work for non-for-profit organizations, or community voluntary work to learn the skills and experience you want to get in marketing.
