To become a marketing superstar, you need to work on the following areas of development:
1. Physical Development Area.
2. Mental Development Area.
3. Social Development Area.
1. What is Physical Development area needed to become a marketing superstar?
You physical fitness is no.1 priority when you work in any marketing related rule, or in any rule related to customers communication; sales, customer service, Public Relations, Marketing Research.
If you love to eat (as I love) then you need to work on this area to lose weight, and to keep your physical body fit. I can tell you I lost about 23 KG in 3 months. The No. 1 Branding rule is to position yourself as a unique brand. And if I am talking about Branding for yourself, then your physical fitness and body shape is much more important than how much knowledge you have. Because: you are a brand representing the company when communicating with customers.
2. Mental Development Area to become a marketing superstar:
You need to work on 2 paradigms to become a marketing superstar:
a. Knowledge Development Paradigm:
Which means you need to develop yourself in marketing (if you aren’t marketer now), or your specialization in marketing (marketing communications, marketing research, marketing planning, branding, marketing management) fast with accurate and precise plan. Managers love to hire marketers who aren’t just innovative, then love to hire marketers who are developing themselves in a way that is different than anyone else of their marketers.
b. Skills development Paradigm:
The skills development paradigm means to work on both marketing and non marketing skills to become qualified as marketing superstar. The skills you need are:
1. Marketing planning Skills, Marketing Communications Skills, Marketing Research Skills, marketing management skills, relationship marketing skills, application of marketing in different context and industries (to get a diversity in marketing skills) as B2B, B2C, Service marketing and international marketing,
2. Very professional and strong interpersonal communications skills: this is very important because manager like the marketer who is capable to communicate his messages to the company employees and to the customers.
3. Professional Presentation and Persuasion Skills.
4. Analytical skills and Decision making Skills: there a well known mistake about marketers who love to analyze every small and minute issue in their products and services, but they fail to take a decision and actions. Those types of marketers are facing a problem called “Paralysis by Analysis” which means they are paralyzing the marketing implementations by very long analysis leads to paralysis of marketing plans.
5. Creative and critical thinking skills: this is also important to make your manager see and feel how much you unique and different.
Note: I want to correct information about 99% of marketing lovers (and not working in marketing field now): “that most of them believing to become a marketing superstar, you should be a creative and innovative person”. Let me correct this information for you: if you want to make the Break-through idea, brochure, advertising, campaign; just you will ask any marketing communications agencies to think for you about those ideas. Any marketing communications agency is having “Creative Media” department; who are responsible for creating the best idea and most innovative approach to apply your ideas to the market.
So marketing managers, and professionals are hiring the superstar marketer who is having a balance between analytical skills and decision making skills. It’s simple and clear.
3. Social Development Area needed to become a marketing superstar:
You need to work both on internal and external level to make your managers, customers and professional colleagues that you are a marketing superstar.
3.1.Internal communications inside the company:
Your managers should be treated as professional as your colleagues (at the same level). Because simply may be you aren’t communicating professionally with colleagues as your manager, so if one of your colleagues know everything about you and he or she want to become a marketing superstar than you, then simply they will attack the weakest point you told them about. So consider the business as business, no personal communications in business, you need to be professional and precise. And communicate with all levels by the same professional pattern.
3.2.External communications outside the company:
If you have a business dinner with your customers to conduct informal activity, so also consider this as business, don’t share personal issues with your customers. Instead know all of the personal issues about your customers but you shouldn’t do the same. Because simply the customer is representing himself or herself, but you are representing your company and organization, if you made a mistake, then they will say that your company made a mistake. And if your customers like you, they will like your company, your brand and finally return on your business. And believe me; your managers, colleagues and company marketers will know all of that information about how you are communicating with their customers. So be prepared.
